The State of the News Media in America – Overview of Major Trends
The State of the News Media report examines the health of the U.S. news media and provides comprehensive data on each of the eight major sectors of the media. Totaling nearly 180,000 words, the sixth edition of the annual report also includes a Year in the News, a special look at Hispanic and African American media, a content analysis of Citizen Media in 46 communities, and lessons learned from the 2008 election. The report is the work of the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism, a nonpolitical, nonpartisan research institute. The study is funded by the Pew Charitable Trustsand was produced with the help of a number of collaborators, including Rick Edmonds of the Poynter Institute and a host of industry readers.
