This article is based upon an article in Dallas PaperCity by Brooke Hortenstine with Rob Brinkley
We salute them for a great hyperlocal contribution to journalism that requires global distribution.

The Dallas Cowboys are at the forefront of branding and marketing on a global basis. Jerry Jones is a trendsetter in the NFL today. The world is his stage as he envisioned and built one of the sports wonders of the world…Cowboy Stadium. The world originally thought he was building a football stadium for America’s beloved Dallas Cowboys. The fact is Jerry was building something more, something bigger than the Dallas Cowboys, locals affectionately call it Jerry’s World, we call it “A Global Play and Events Center” unlike anything in America and the world. Where else would this occur and have the bigness, significance and be the cultural or pop culture icon then from the great state of Texas’s Dallas, Texas.
There are certain names that Dallas Cowboy fans are accustomed to seeing hanging on their hometown stadium walls (what a hometown stadium). Ring of of Honors superstars, Bob Lilly, Emmitt Smith, Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Troy Aiken among many others are there. There are also names there that might come as a surprise to the average Dallas Cowboy or National Footbal League fan. Trenton Doyle Hancock, Teresita Fernandez, Olafur Eliasson are all super star contemporary artists. They all share wall space at the $1.15 billion dollar Cowboy Stadium.
Jerry Jones and his wife Gene Jones launched an unprecedented globally focused art program for a globally focused trend forward, stadium. Their efforts integrated the normally diverse worlds of arenas and fine art.
The program commissioned superstar artists to create monumental site specific installations that will provoke and intrigue art and pop culture fans to stop, admire, ponder and study….Annette Lawrences’s stretched cable sculpture or for a concert goer to marvel at the rows and rows of Mel Bochner’s painted text exclamations. Jerry had the vision of bringing together a top notch council of Howard Rachofsky, Gayle Stoffel, the Museum of Modern Arts chief curator Michael Auping and the Dallas Museum of Art’s curator of contemporary art, Charlie Wylie, they evaluated and recommended artists and their works. Mary Zlot of the San Francisco art advisory firm Mary Zlot & Associates also provided support in facilitating the program. This collaboration has so far resulted in 19 works of art. Each work has an underlying theme of relating to the high energy of sporting matches and performances. Some incorporate recognizable symbols of the Dallas Cowboys (of course we all knew that Jerry would not miss this opportunity…nor should he!) such as their iconic star. Jerry and Gene are connecting new audiences to the world of fine art and artist….Thanks Gene and Jerry. The art program at Cowboy Stadium brings together a next generation view of NFL and large event stadiums in regard to pop culture and opens the dialogue between sports and arts for years to come. Mark Cuban you got next!

Pop Culture is an integral part of the media & entertainment industry that we participate in creating & consuming.

Everyone has their own definition of what is pop culture. GSEConnect believes that pop culture is a loose blend of the catchiest or memorable people, books, music, fashion and other daily behaviors that contributes to the identity of a society at a particular point in time. In essence, pop culture is a self-portrait created through popularity and purchasing power. In the 30’s and 40’s radio and print carried the day as driving the essence of pop culture. In the 50’s and 60’s, radio, film, television, and books carried the essence of American pop culture. In the 60’s and 70’s social consciousness carried by media and entertainment carried the day. Today the 2000’s celebrities, globalization, the internet via email social networks, blogs etc. are carrying the pop culture banner.

Popular culture is the patterns of human activity highlighted by the mass media and entertainment outlets that give such activities significance and importance thus driving awareness and popularity. That activity, person, behavior or thing that is most strongly represented by a large or highly exposed segment of society is usually perceived to be more popular.

Popular culture often contrasts with a more exclusive, even elitist high society group, that reflects the culture of the ruling class. The earliest use of “popular” in English during the fifteenth century in law and politics, meaning “low class”, “poor”, “vulgar”, and reflective of the commoners. Several hundreds of years later it began to mean “widespread” and became looked upon more positively.

Pop culture finds its most common expressions in the mass media touted areas of fashion, music, sports and film. The world of pop culture has had a particular influence on art from the early 1960s on, through Pop Art. Today, most adults, their kids and grandchildren “participate” in pop culture directly or indirectly everyday.

As you can see, pop culture is an integral part of the media and entertainment industry. We participate in it; we are part of creating it. Pop culture spans all of our market niches, urban, anime/comic, fine art, toys and games, etc. Our niche pop culture networks are where our members intentionally participate in the creating and impacting of tomorrow’s pop culture. Post your content, comments and thoughts about your favorite celebrities, fashions, books/comics, music, films or artists.

GSEConnect has positioned itself in the mainstream of global media and entertainment with its pop culture social networks.

So pop on in and join us by having your say on what is tomorrows pop culture, why not create some pop culture and post it in one or more of the niche pop culture networks, you never know what will catch on and become famous and be part of pop culture.

Join one or more communities where you can contribute your works and your thoughts while keeping track of what’s going on in this trendsetting, very hot and ever changing pop culture niche.
